H&M Group, a global fashion retailer, is set to bolster its renewable energy efforts with the addition of three new ground-mounted solar parks in Sweden. The parks, located in Blekinge, Sรถdermanland, and Halland, will have capacities of 13 MW, 6 MW, and 4 MW, respectively. Construction has already commenced on the park in Blekinge, while the remaining two parks are slated to begin construction in the upcoming spring. According to the current timeline, they are expected to be operational by early 2025, providing H&M Group with renewable electricity. Upon completion, Alight, a renewable energy company, will own and operate the solar parks.

Collectively, these projects are projected to generate at least 24 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the power consumption of over 4,800 homes. This development marks a significant step forward in H&M Group’s commitment to sourcing renewable electricity exclusively by 2030. Renewable energy plays a pivotal role in the company’s efforts to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero by 2040, with agreements like the one with Alight contributing substantially to their sustainability journey.

Ulrika Leverenz, Head of Green Investment at H&M Group, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion of their partnership with Alight, underscoring the importance of renewable energy in their sustainability roadmap.

Harald ร–verholm, CEO and co-founder of Alight, welcomed the commitment from H&M Group, emphasizing the positive impact of these projects on both corporate and community sustainability.

This initiative builds on the existing partnership between H&M Group and Alight, which previously signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in December 2022 to develop a 100 MW solar park in Hultsfred, Sweden, in collaboration with French renewable energy company Neoen.
