Strategic Partnership between EMC Kerala and AEEE: Driving Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development in Kerala

EMC Kerala, the designated authority for energy conservation in Kerala, and AEEE, a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting energy efficiency, have joined forces in a strategic partnership aimed at advancing energy efficiency initiatives across the state. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing this collaboration was exchanged on February 8, 2024, during the inaugural International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK) held at the Tagore Theatre from February 7 to 9, 2024. It’s noteworthy that following the MoU exchange, AEEE conducted a session on โ€˜Catalyzing Energy Efficiency in states through the ESCO routeโ€™ at IEFK.

The MoU lays out a framework for cooperation between EMC Kerala and AEEE, with a focus on expanding and enhancing EMC Keralaโ€™s initiatives through the exchange of information and knowledge, collaboration on policy application and implementation, capacity building, and resource mobilization. Both organizations are dedicated to supporting each other in accelerating the adoption of cleaner and energy-efficient solutions and technologies, particularly in areas such as ESCOs, MSMEs, Demand Flexibility, EE Finance, and the development of State Energy Policies.

Dr. R Harikumar, Director of Energy Management Centre Kerala, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, highlighting its significance in fostering sustainable development through enhanced energy efficiency practices in Kerala. Leveraging AEEEโ€™s expertise in decarbonization and energy efficiency, the partnership aims to expedite efforts to reduce energy consumption and mitigate emissions, thereby contributing to the development of a climate-resilient Kerala in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals and net-zero aspirations.

Dr. Satish Kumar, President and Executive Director of AEEE, underscored the importance of the partnership, noting Kerala’s leadership in energy management and conservation in India. The collaboration between EMC Kerala and AEEE is poised to drive impactful transformations in Kerala’s energy efficiency landscape. Through joint efforts, innovative strategies and solutions will be developed to address the challenges of climate change and the energy transition in the region.

Over the next three years, EMC Kerala and AEEE will closely collaborate to implement various policy and project-related initiatives outlined in the MoU across different demand sectors in the state.
