Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s foremost renewable energy company and the world’s second-largest solar PV developer, has successfully commenced operations of a 551 MW solar capacity facility in Khavda, Gujarat, contributing power to the national grid.

This significant achievement was realized within a mere 12-month period since the initiation of work on the Khavda Renewable Energy (RE) Park. AGEL’s efforts commenced with the development of essential infrastructure such as roads and connectivity, alongside the establishment of a self-sufficient social ecosystem. Moreover, AGEL undertook the transformation of the rugged and desolate terrain of the Rann of Kutch into a livable environment for its workforce of 8,000 individuals.

AGEL envisions the development of 30 GW of renewable energy capacity at this remarkable RE park, with plans for this capacity to be operationalized over the next five years. Upon completion, the Khavda RE Park will stand as the largest renewable energy installation globally.

The anticipated annual contribution of the 30 GW RE plant includes:

  • Generating approximately 81 billion units of clean electricity
  • Powering around 16.1 million households
  • Creating over 15,200 green jobs
  • Avoiding approximately 58 million tons of CO2 emissions

This reduction in emissions is equivalent to the carbon sequestration provided by 2,761 million trees or avoiding the burning of 60,300 tonnes of coal, effectively taking 12.6 million cars off the roads.

The energy generated from the Khavda RE Park has the capacity to supply power to 16.1 million homes annually. Leveraging its proven expertise in developing large-scale renewable projects, a robust supply chain network, and technological proficiency, AGEL is uniquely positioned to construct this unprecedented giga-scale plant, setting new benchmarks in the global clean energy sector.

The region boasts some of the nation’s finest wind and solar resources, making it an ideal location for large-scale RE development. AGEL conducted exhaustive studies and implemented innovative solutions to expedite the development of the plant, thereby fostering the growth of an indigenous and sustainable supply chain.

Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, remarked, “Adani Green Energy is spearheading one of the most extensive renewable energy ecosystems globally for solar and wind. Through pioneering projects like the Khavda RE Plant, AGEL continues to establish elevated global standards and redefine planning and execution norms for giga-scale renewable energy endeavors. This achievement underscores the Adani Group’s unwavering commitment and leading role in propelling India’s transition towards equitable clean energy, aligning with its ambitious targets of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and carbon neutrality.”
