Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariya Gabriel, recently embarked on a significant diplomatic visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, responding to an invitation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.M. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The objective of the visit was to fortify the longstanding and robust relations between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia, underpinned by pragmatism and a shared vision for the future.

During high-level discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel underscored Bulgaria’s pivotal role as a stabilizing force in Southeast Europe, contributing to regional security. Emphasizing Bulgaria’s strategic significance as a hub for innovation, energy, and transport, the discussions also touched upon pressing geopolitical matters, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the broader situation in the Middle East.

Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during her visit, Mariya Gabriel thanked her hosts for their commitment to a shared vision for future cooperation between the two nations. Bilateral meetings with key Saudi officials played a crucial role in advancing discussions, including sessions with the Minister of Energy H.K.M. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the Chairperson of the Consultative Council (Shura) H.E Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh, and the Minister of Investment H.E. Eng. Khalid A. Al-Falih.

These initiatives, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, offer both countries a platform to share their visions for the future.

The visit took a notable turn towards energy collaboration during a meeting between Mariya Gabriel and HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy. Discussions covered various aspects of bilateral relations in the energy sector, exploring ways to enhance mutual cooperation. The two sides also delved into Saudi Arabia’s efforts to tackle climate change challenges through local and regional initiatives, including the Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative.
