Andes Solar, a renewable energy firm, has concluded a year of robust progress in 2023, reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and tackling Chile’s energy transition head-on. The company has secured vital agreements for constructing and advancing projects across various regions of the nation, slated to commence operations in 2024.
This past year marked a period of extensive expansion and development for Andes Solar, actively engaging in emerging industry trends such as self-consumption and agrovoltaic technology. Notably, the company spearheaded the construction of the largest floating photovoltaic plant in the Southern Cone, the Quilamuta plant owned by Solarity, boasting a capacity of 1,098.9 kWp.
Among the projects announced at the close of the previous year, notable ventures include the Amanecer project in Sierra Gorda, Antofagasta, with a capacity of 7 MW, along with the Pirincho and Persรฉfone projects, with capacities of 3 MWp and 4.8 MWp respectively, situated in the Metropolitan Region and Coquimbo. Additionally, Andes Solar is actively developing wind projects in the รuble and Los Rรญos regions, totaling 450 MW in collaboration with EDP Renewables.
Roberto Muรฑoz, Andes Solar’s General Manager, regards these strategic agreements as pivotal for diversifying their portfolio, integrating hybrid projects combining storage, wind, and solar elements. Despite the challenges anticipated in 2024 within the electricity market and renewable sector, Muรฑoz expresses confidence in the company’s preparedness to navigate them effectively and advance its projects.
Looking ahead, Andes Solar is focusing on new projects, including hybrid technology incorporating solar, wind, and storage sources in the northern part of Chile, with a preliminary capacity of 200 MW. Additionally, plans include a wind farm in the Los Rรญos region with a preliminary capacity of 180 MW and a solar project in the Metropolitan Region with a capacity of around 70 MWp. Muรฑoz aims to add nearly 300 MW in new developments this year, aiming to achieve a portfolio of 2.5 GW.
Corporate achievements highlight Andes Solar’s commitment to the circular economy, exemplified by its inaugural “Zero Waste” project in 2023 at PMGD Cรณndor Petorca (2.98 MWp), emphasizing thorough recycling and reuse practices to mitigate industrial waste impact. Moreover, the company prioritizes safety, evidenced by being the first photovoltaic company to attain the highest safety certification (Gold) from Mutual de Seguridad, reinforcing their dedication to employee well-being.
Andes Solar solidifies its status as a frontrunner in promoting renewable energies in Chile. With diversified agreements and projects spanning construction, operation, maintenance, and development nationwide, the company exhibits adaptability to market challenges, poised for substantial portfolio growth. This underscores its pivotal role in Chile’s energy landscape, reaffirming its dedication to sustainable energy transition.
