Honeywell has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Green Solutions Group Corporation (TGS) for the Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen project, Vietnam’s pioneering green hydrogen plant in the Mekong Delta. The collaboration aims to leverage Honeywell’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to reduce costs, lower carbon emissions, and enhance grid stability from renewable power sources, facilitating green hydrogen production at the Tra Vinh plant.

Utilizing Honeywell’s advanced technologies such as project automation design and management, alongside energy management solutions tailored for the energy transition, including BESS, TGS will integrate renewable energy sources into the green hydrogen plant infrastructure. The MoU signing, witnessed by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, occurred in November 2023 during the COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, UAE.

Ramanathan Valliyappan, Regional General Manager of Honeywell Process Solutions, emphasized the pivotal role of Honeywell’s BESS in the Tra Vinh project, extending renewable energy beyond sunlight hours and periods of low wind to ensure grid stability and enable green hydrogen production. Honeywell will not only provide BESS but also offer comprehensive solutions and expertise across the entire hydrogen value chain to support TGS in safe and profitable operations while achieving renewable energy production objectives.

Huynh Thi Kim Quyen, Managing Director of TGS, hailed the collaboration as a crucial step towards green hydrogen production at the Tra Vinh plant, positioning it as a significant milestone in Vietnam’s national goal of decarbonizing the energy sector with renewable energy solutions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 underscores the urgency of such initiatives, particularly in regions like the Mekong Delta, where the Tra Vinh plant is located, offering high solar and wind power potential. This commitment aligns with Honeywell’s pledge to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations and facilities by 2035, reflecting its ongoing dedication to innovation for environmental and social sustainability. With approximately 60% of its 2022 new product development investments directed towards ESG-oriented outcomes, Honeywell continues to drive positive change in collaboration with its customers.
