In a significant leap forward for India’s renewable energy sector, Jakson Green, a frontrunner in the energy transition arena, has announced the signing of its maiden Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This groundbreaking agreement positions Jakson Green as a pivotal Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the burgeoning field of renewable energy in India.
The PPA is a result of SECI’s Tranche XI auction, aimed at establishing grid-connected solar projects across the nation. Under this agreement, Jakson Green will take charge of identifying the project site, installation, and securing ownership, in addition to obtaining the necessary approvals and connecting with the ISTS network to supply power to SECI. The project, slated to be operational within 18 months from the date of signing, will supply power for a duration of 25 years, with the generated electricity being distributed to various discom entities throughout India.
This venture is not only expected to bring commercial gains to all involved parties but also to significantly contribute to environmental sustainability. It is estimated to power approximately 100,000 households annually, cut down around 188,000 MT of carbon emissions each year, and create numerous job opportunities during its construction and operational phases.
Mr. Kannan Krishnan, Joint Managing Director of Jakson Green Private Limited, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to kickstart our partnership with SECI with this project, which is just the beginning of our ambitious plans for the future. This project underscores our commitment to supporting India’s transition to clean energy and our confidence in making a substantial impact on the country’s renewable energy objectives.”
With the signing of this PPA, Jakson Green is on track to expand its portfolio to nearly 1 GW of owned and under-development assets. The company anticipates signing additional agreements for significant power assets in the forthcoming weeks, supported by a robust development pipeline, underscoring its commitment to India’s clean energy future.
