In a significant stride towards sustainability, Solarvest Energy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the leading clean energy specialist Solarvest Holdings Berhad, has been entrusted by Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), to deploy solar power systems across more than 300 PETRONAS stations throughout Malaysia.

This undertaking, awarded to Solarvest, marks a pivotal moment in Malaysia’s journey towards cleaner energy, bolstering the nation’s commitment to environmental goals. It underscores a growing emphasis on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles within the oil and gas sector while solidifying Solarvest’s pivotal role in Malaysia’s energy transition.

Scheduled to commence in April 2024, the project will entail installing over 5.4 MWp of solar capacity across the designated PETRONAS stations. These solar systems are anticipated to be fully operational by 2027, projected to mitigate approximately 5,035 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong (张俊雄), Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest, expressed pride in partnering with Gentari on this significant endeavor. He emphasized the potential of solar energy to decarbonize retail fuel operations, given that oil and gas activities presently contribute around 15% of global energy-related emissions, equivalent to 5.1 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

He further noted the growing demand for renewable energy solutions among businesses in Southeast Asia as they navigate the energy transition. By embracing solar PV systems, businesses are actively advancing sustainability and reducing their environmental footprint. Davis highlighted Solarvest’s commitment to driving this transition, not only within Malaysia but also across neighboring countries, leveraging Gentari’s extensive global network.

In conclusion, Solarvest is poised to spearhead the clean energy transition, with the installation of solar power systems at PETRONAS stations representing a significant step towards a greener future in Malaysia and beyond.
