Tata Power has bagged approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its short-term objectives. This accomplishment positions the company as the sole Indian Integrated Power entity with endorsed SBTi targets, aligning with the goal of keeping global temperature rise well below 2°C.

SBTi has verified Tata Power’s targets according to the Near-Term Target Criteria and Recommendations. Through a steadfast commitment to science-based standards, Tata Power seeks to set a precedent and drive transformative action within the industry and beyond. In doing so, it plays a pivotal role in tackling the global climate crisis, aligning with its Sustainable is Attainable initiative.

Tata Power’s ambitious aims include a commitment to significantly reduce scope 1 GHG emissions by FY2037 compared to a FY2022 baseline and to achieve a decrease in scope 1 and 3 GHG emissions from the generation of all sold electricity within the same timeframe. The SBTi, a collaboration between CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the We Mean Business Coalition, endeavors to promote ambitious corporate climate action by facilitating the establishment of science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for businesses and financial institutions worldwide.
