Epsilon Carbon’s Rs. 10,000 Crore Investment in Odisha: Pioneering a New Era in Carbon Manufacturing

Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a major entity in the carbon sector, announced its strategic partnership with the Odisha Government through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration entails an investment of Rs. 10,000 crores across a decade, marking a significant leap in India’s carbon manufacturing landscape. The investment will culminate in the establishment of an Integrated Carbon Complex (ICC) in Jharsuguda, Odisha, enhancing the region’s industrial profile.

The ICC is poised to feature three primary carbon-based product lines: a Speciality Carbon segment with an annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tons, a Carbon Black section capable of producing 300,000 metric tons per year, and an Advanced Materials division with a yearly output of 75,000 metric tons. This ambitious project is expected to generate around 2000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, significantly impacting the local socio-economic framework.

Epsilon Carbon’s initiative extends beyond industrial pursuits, aiming to foster community development through educational, skill enhancement, healthcare, and infrastructure projects. The choice of Jharsuguda as the project site is strategic, given its thriving industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and conducive policies. The location’s proximity to major steel producers and its status as a hub for India’s aluminium industry, utilizing coal tar pitch extensively, adds to the project’s strategic advantages. The logistical benefits are further bolstered by the nearby Paradip port, facilitating seamless export processes.

Vikram Handa, the Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, shared his optimism regarding the investment, highlighting the alignment of Odisha’s industrial policies with their sustainable business objectives. This venture is expected to fortify Epsilon Carbon’s position in the carbon market and underscore its dedication to sustainable industrial development. Handa emphasized the company’s intent to drive innovation and excellence in carbon manufacturing, contributing significantly to the growth and prosperity of Jharsuguda and its environs.
