The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has issued an order regarding the tariff applicable to Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic (SRTPV) installations, specifically those under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This government scheme aims to promote the installation of rooftop solar plants in households by providing financial assistance. The KERC’s Generic Tariff Order dated June 1, 2023, which established tariffs and norms for SRTPV projects, does not apply to installations covered under this scheme.

The Commission acknowledges the importance of determining appropriate tariffs for SRTPV plants benefiting from the PM-Surya Ghar scheme. In response, the KERC has initiated discussions and issued a discussion paper to determine the tariff for these installations. This decision ensures that the tariff structure aligns with the objectives and requirements of the subsidy scheme.

By issuing this order, the KERC clarifies that the tariff determined in their previous order is not applicable to SRTPV installations covered under the PM-Surya Ghar scheme. This move underscores the Commission’s commitment to facilitating the implementation of government initiatives aimed at promoting renewable energy adoption at the household level.
