Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project for the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in Koppal, Karnataka. The project marks another milestone in the company’s expansion of utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure and strengthens its contribution to India’s clean energy transition. TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, developed the project.
The newly commissioned solar project is expected to generate approximately 810 million units (MUs) of renewable electricity annually. It is also estimated to help avoid around 103,820 tonnes of carbon emissions every year, supporting India’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and increase the share of clean energy in the electricity mix. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to SECI.
The Koppal project incorporates advanced solar tracking technology, allowing solar modules to follow the sun’s movement throughout the day to optimise energy generation. It also features TP580HG10NB bifacial solar modules, which are designed to capture sunlight from both sides of the panel. The combination of solar trackers and high-efficiency bifacial modules is expected to improve energy generation and ensure more effective utilisation of the project site.
The project also highlights TPREL’s efforts to promote workforce diversity and encourage greater participation of women in India’s renewable energy sector. Approximately 16 women professionals, representing nearly 40% of the workforce at the project site, have contributed to its execution. They have taken up important responsibilities in technical and managerial positions, including Site Managers and Site Engineers, supporting engineering, project execution, and team management.
With the commissioning of the Koppal project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12 GW. Of this, approximately 7.2 GW is operational, comprising 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. The remaining capacity of nearly 4.9 GW is currently in various stages of implementation.
The commissioning further strengthens the company’s renewable energy portfolio and reflects its focus on technology-driven project development and execution. Through large-scale solar and wind installations, TPREL continues to expand its renewable energy presence while supporting India’s long-term ambition of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable power sector.
