Verano Energy’s ambitious project aims to produce hydrogen, green ammonia, and e-fuels through a photovoltaic project spanning up to 5.85 GWp across five phases. Situated in the district of Majes, province of Caylloma, the land facilities will be complemented by a desalination plant, terminal, and pipelines in the coastal area of the district of Quilca, province of Camanรก.

In its initial phase, titled ‘Horizonte de Verano,’ the project anticipates generating over 420 thousand tons of green ammonia annually, leveraging a solar generation capacity of 1,500 MWp. As the project progresses, it aims to reach a total installed solar generation capacity of 5,850 MWp, resulting in a production of 1.65 million tons of green ammonia per year. Transportation of the green ammonia will be facilitated through a 26-kilometer pipeline to a maritime storage and distribution facility on the coast.

The electrolysis plant will utilize desalinated water processed on-site to produce hydrogen, which will then be converted into ammonia for transportation via sea routes.

Verano Energy anticipates securing all necessary permits for project construction by the first half of 2025, with the first phase scheduled to commence operations by mid-2027 and the final phase by early 2032.

The project represents a significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure in Peru, promising economic benefits and contributing to the country’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

This venture underscores Verano Energy’s commitment to advancing clean energy technologies and fostering environmental stewardship in the region, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
