SEMA Coalition Executive Director Mike Carr commended Secretary Yellen for acknowledging the challenges faced by U.S. solar manufacturers in competing with Chinese counterparts. Carr emphasized the need for immediate action to curb the dumping of Chinese solar modules in the U.S. market and highlighted concerns regarding the Treasury Department’s current guidance on domestic content bonuses, which he believes perpetuates the unequal competitive landscape.

In a recent report commissioned by the SEMA Coalition and authored by Guidehouse Insights, the opportunity to onshore solar manufacturing for enhanced U.S. energy security was highlighted. The report assesses the current state of U.S. silicon solar manufacturing capacity, outlines the benefits of onshoring, and presents policy recommendations for the Biden administration to facilitate the transition to a U.S.-based solar manufacturing supply chain.
