TNB Renewables Partners with AFRY for Solar PV Plant in Kedah, Malaysia

TNB Renewables Sdn Bhd (TRe), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s premier electricity utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has appointed AFRY as the owner’s engineer for the construction of a significant solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Kedah, Malaysia. The plant aims to provide clean energy to a corporate consumer through a long-term agreement, as part of TNB’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Located in Pekan Labu Besar, Kedah state, the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) project will feature a ground-mounted single-axis solar tracker with a capacity of approximately 30 MWac. The initiative represents a strategic move towards expanding Malaysia’s renewable energy capacity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), the solar plant will supply clean energy to a commercial power consumer at a pre-agreed price structure, ensuring long-term sustainability and cost efficiency for the end consumer.

AFRY, a renowned global engineering and consulting firm with a vast portfolio spanning over 500 solar power projects across 80 countries, will provide comprehensive owner’s engineering services for the CGPP project. This includes project management, design review, and oversight of the construction and commissioning phases, ensuring the successful implementation of the solar PV plant.
