SmartestEnergy and Blackfinch Energy Expand Partnership with New Solar Power Purchase Agreements

In a significant development for renewable energy, SmartestEnergy Limited and Blackfinch Energy have announced the signing of two new Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for solar projects: Bryngolwg and Horsey Levels solar farms. This expansion marks a continued collaboration between the two entities in their efforts to achieve net-zero emissions.

The newly inked pre-construction PPAs for the 8.9MW Bryngolwg and the 24MW Horsey Levels solar farms contribute to a shared portfolio totaling 54MW across various solar and onshore wind projects. This capacity is sufficient to power over 30,000 homes annually with clean electricity.

The recent signing coincided with the energization of the Horsey Levels solar farm on March 12th, marking the project as the first renewable project energized under the National Energy System Operator’s Technical Limits Programme. This initiative aims to expedite delayed connections, advancing the transition to cleaner energy.

Angus Widdowson, Head of Generation at SmartestEnergy, commented, “We’re proud to partner with a forward-thinking investor like Blackfinch, and this latest collaboration further strengthens a long-standing relationship, with several successful PPA deals, both operational and pre-construction.”

Alan Gorman, Investment Director at Blackfinch Energy, emphasized the significance of PPAs in their strategy to create value for retail investors. He stated, “Investing into energy infrastructure takes careful management of risk around energy pricing… We’re delighted to be able to work with SmartestEnergy.”

The partnership between SmartestEnergy and Blackfinch Energy underscores their commitment to driving forward renewable energy investments and contributing to a sustainable future.
