UAE Cabinet Approves Groundbreaking Regulation For Enhanced Energy Management And Sustainability In Industrial Facilities

Eng Sharif Al Olama, the esteemed Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), has unveiled the intricacies of the newly sanctioned Federal Energy Management Regulation in Industrial Facilities by the UAE Cabinet. This regulatory milestone aims to revolutionize energy efficiency and sustainability within the industrial domain.

Distinguished as the inaugural initiative of its kind, the Federal Energy Management Regulation in Industrial Facilities endeavors to steer industrial enterprises towards adopting premier technology and operational excellence in energy management. Its overarching objective is to curtail consumption and emissions, thereby spearheading a paradigm shift towards sustainability within the industrial sector. Anticipated outcomes include a substantial 33% reduction in energy demand by 2050.

Furthermore, this pioneering regulation is poised to ameliorate air quality by an impressive 32%, with projected CO2 emission reductions amounting to approximately 63 Mt by 2050. The financial ramifications are equally compelling, with anticipated savings totalling AED14 billion by 2050.

Eng Al Olama emphasized, “This strategic move underscores the UAE’s unwavering dedication to sustainability and climate action. Aligned with our steadfast commitment to extending the Year of Sustainability through 2024, we ardently advocate for the judicious utilization of energy as we transition towards a sustainable green economy. The Regulation epitomizes our concerted efforts to facilitate the industrial sector’s journey towards net-zero emissions, predicated on the pillars of reduced energy consumption, heightened reliance on clean energy solutions, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies conducive to sustainable industrial growth.”

In consonance with this pivotal development, His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary of the Industry Accelerators Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, affirmed, “Harmonizing with the UAE’s blueprint for sustainable economic development and our collective aspiration for climate neutrality by 2050, governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, are steadfastly crafting strategies and policies to instigate the adoption of sustainability benchmarks. The Federal Regulation for Energy Management in Industrial Facilities marks a significant stride towards fortifying the national industrial landscape while aligning with global benchmarks, particularly in the realm of energy efficiency. This regulatory framework assumes a pivotal role in galvanizing the industrial sector towards swift energy reduction, thereby advancing the objectives outlined in the National Energy and Water Demand Side Management Programme 2050. It bolsters our pursuit of sectoral decarbonization, in consonance with the Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap’s ambitious target of 93% reduction by 2050.”
