The Albanese Government has allocated $1.5 million to bring three new community batteries to Canberra, further advancing the city’s journey towards a more sustainable future. These batteries, to be situated in Casey, Dickson, and Fadden, represent significant progress in Canberra’s commitment to cleaner, greener energy solutions.
Collaborating closely with the ACT Government, Evoenergy will oversee the installation and maintenance of these batteries. Expected to generate 160 kilowatts of power and store up to 400 kilowatt hours of energy, these batteries will play a crucial role in enhancing the city’s energy infrastructure.
This funding is part of the Australian Government’s broader initiative, the Community Batteries for Household Solar program. This nationwide effort aims to deploy community batteries across various regions, facilitating lower electricity costs, reducing emissions, enabling the storage of surplus solar energy, and alleviating strain on the grid. The batteries will be installed by March 2025.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, said, “Delivering more storage enables more households to reliably access the cost-of-living relief offered by solar. We committed to deploy 400 community batteries to help households access cheaper, cleaner energy, and thatโs exactly what weโre doing.”
