Ignite Power, a leading provider of distributed infrastructure solutions, has announced a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainable development. The company has expanded renewable energy access in Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Cameroon through the strategic acquisition of Oolu, a prominent provider of Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) solutions in West Africa.
The acquisition marks Ignite Powerโs entry into the vibrant West African market, where it aims to replicate the success achieved across multiple countries in East and Southern Africa. By integrating Oolu’s strong operational presence and advanced technologies with Igniteโs proven expertise, the company seeks to positively impact millions of lives and pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable, and inclusive future.
Yariv Cohen, CEO of Ignite Power, expressed excitement about welcoming the Oolu team to the Ignite Power family. He emphasized Igniteโs confidence in substantially expanding its impact and footprint across the wider West African region through strategic collaborations and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.
In Kenya, where Ignite Power completed strategic acquisitions last year, the companyโs impact has been revolutionary. By seamlessly integrating operations and deploying advanced technologies, Igniteโs newly acquired companies quadrupled sales and significantly reduced market prices, setting new standards for excellence and affordability in the distributed renewable energy sector.
Oolu, a graduate of the renowned Y Combinator accelerator, has provided clean and affordable energy access to over 800,000 people across West Africa. Through a diverse range of DRE systems, including solar home systems, productive use of energy (PUE) solutions, and commercial and industrial (C&I) projects, Oolu has made significant strides in advancing renewable energy adoption in the region.
Dan Rosa, Co-founder and CEO of Oolu, highlighted the remarkable opportunity presented by joining the Ignite family. He emphasized the potential to tap into vast opportunities, enhance reach, and substantially increase impact across communities in West Africa.
With the strategic acquisition of Oolu, Ignite Power also enters the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. Leveraging Ooluโs successful deployment of 3 MW across various projects and a growing portfolio of new solar projects in Nigeria, Ignite aims to drive growth and resilience across the solar landscape in West Africa.
The potential for distributed solar energy in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, is significant. With over 80 million people lacking access to reliable electricity, distributed solar energy solutions present a compelling alternative. Ignite Power is strategically positioned to capitalize on this opportunity and contribute to the region’s sustainable development.
As the shift towards sustainable energy solutions continues, Ignite Power remains committed to realizing its vision of a world powered by clean, sustainable, and distributed energy. With the acquisition of Oolu, the company takes another step towards illuminating the path to a brighter, more prosperous, and cleaner future for all.
