Scatec ASA Commissioned 273 MW Grootfontein Solar Plant in South Africa

Scatec ASA, a leading renewable energy provider, has officially commenced commercial operations at the 273 MW Grootfontein solar power plant in the Western Cape, South Africa. The plant will operate under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), ensuring predictable revenue streams.

Project Highlights

-The Grootfontein plant is expected to generate 700 GWh of clean energy annually.

-It will lead to an estimated reduction of 630,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

-The project is the largest co-located solar PV cluster in the Western Cape and the first solar project to reach COD under REIPPPP Round 5.

Ownership and Partnerships

-Scatec ASA: 51% equity and provides Operation & Maintenance and Asset Management services.

-H1 Holdings: 46.5% equity, a local Black Economic Empowerment partner.

-Grootfontein Local Community Trust: 2.5% equity, representing community interests.
