The National Copper Corporation of Chile (Codelco) and energy company Engie Chile have announced modifications to their electricity supply contract with subsidiary Central Termoelรฉctrica Andina (CTA), signed in June 2007. The aim of the modification, as stated in the Essential Fact communicated to the president of the Chilean Financial Market Commission, Solange Berstein, is to decarbonize the current contract’s energy supply.
The agreement outlines plans to implement a new rate from 2026 until 2032, separating the CTA generation plant from the supply contract. This move is part of the ongoing effort to transition towards a cleaner energy matrix.
Both Codelco and Engie Chile underscore the importance of this modification in continuing the decarbonization process and strengthening their commercial relationship. They emphasize that the terms of the modified contract reflect standard market conditions for long-term agreements of this nature.
