The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain has forged a strategic partnership with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad Esco), a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), to advance the implementation of the “Kafaโa” programme. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Bahrain’s journey towards establishing a Super ESCO (Etihad Energy Services) and underscores the commitment of both entities to enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
EWA views the partnership with Etihad Energy Services as instrumental in the successful execution of the “Kafaโa” programme, leveraging the company’s extensive expertise garnered over 11 years of experience in energy efficiency initiatives, particularly through similar programmes implemented in numerous buildings across Dubai. With a steadfast dedication to achieving strategic objectives aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and curbing electricity consumption, EWA aims to pave the way for Bahrain’s transition towards a sustainable future, aligning with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with EWA, recognizing it as a mutually beneficial partnership poised to deliver impactful outcomes. He underscored DEWA’s commitment to providing advisory services to support the implementation of energy-efficient solutions, thereby driving down energy costs and bolstering EWA’s strategic endeavors.
In alignment with EWA’s vision, HE Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA, highlighted the pivotal role of the “Kafaโa” programme in advancing the Authority’s objectives related to energy efficiency enhancement and consumption reduction in Bahrain. He emphasized the significance of partnering with Etihad Energy Services and leveraging innovative energy efficiency technologies to position Bahrain as a frontrunner in the region.
HE the President commended Etihad Energy Services for its extensive track record in the energy efficiency domain, particularly its commendable achievements in Dubai, which augur well for the seamless implementation of the “Kafaโa” programme in Bahrain.
The “Kafaโa” programme, launched by EWA in Bahrain last December, targets the reduction of electricity consumption in buildings across the public and private sectors. Building on the success of pilot projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, the programme has already demonstrated promising results, including a significant reduction in energy consumption, cost savings, and carbon emissions mitigation. Through collaborative efforts with Etihad Energy Services, EWA remains steadfast in its commitment to driving sustainable progress and fostering a culture of energy conservation in Bahrain.
