Spearheaded by the Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JdVVNL), this project is a part of the larger Pradhan Mantri Kishan Urja Suraksha evam Uthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, which was launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The core of this initiative is to solarize agriculture pumps and provide stable and continuous power supply to rural and remote farmlands. This is achieved by installing grid-connected solar power plants, which not only contribute to reducing the carbon footprint but also significantly cut down the electricity costs for farmers, thereby enhancing their livelihoods.

The solar power projects are installed under the ‘Component-C’ of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which targets feeder-level solarization. This essentially means that solar power plants are set up to cater to the specific power needs of the agricultural feeders in the region. These plants are strategically located to maximize solar energy absorption and effectively supply the required power for agricultural operations.
One of the key aspects of these projects is the competitive bidding process through which the tariffs are determined. This ensures transparency and fairness, enabling the selection of the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for solar power generation. Moreover, the initiative also benefits from Central Financial Assistance (CFA), which further subsidizes the cost of installation and maintenance of these solar plants, making it a financially viable solution for the state and its farmers.
