The Indian government is planning to enhance the accessibility of solar agricultural pump installations under the PM-KUSUM scheme by introducing a national portal to connect farmers with vendors, according to a report from the Economic Times. This initiative, similar to the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana for solar rooftops, aims to streamline the selection and installation process for farmers, reducing delays currently caused by tendering issues.
Sources indicate that the plan is still in its preliminary stages but focuses on improving various aspects of the PM-KUSUM scheme. The proposed portal would allow farmers to submit their requirements directly to vendors, bypassing the state-level tender processes. This approach mirrors the system used in the updated solar rooftop scheme launched in February, which has seen significant success with over 800,000 applications.
The PM-KUSUM scheme has three main components: the establishment of 10,000 MW of solar power units, the installation of approximately 2 million standalone solar agriculture pumps, and the solarization of 1.5 million agriculture pumps. Discussions are ongoing to optimize the installation and solarization processes.
This initiative aims to replicate the success of the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which has exceeded expectations in terms of registrations, indicating strong farmer interest and participation in solar energy adoption.
