Alliant Energy announces the successful completion of its Grant County Solar Project, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to clean energy initiatives. Located in Potosi, Wisconsin, the 200-megawatt (MW) solar array is poised to supply electricity to over 50,000 homes annually.
This accomplishment represents the culmination of Alliant Energy’s extensive efforts in deploying renewable energy infrastructure across Wisconsin. The Grant County Solar Project is part of a larger multi-phase initiative encompassing 12 utility-scale solar projects totaling 1,089 MW. These endeavors have collectively generated over 2,700 jobs and enhanced service reliability, enabling Alliant Energy to power nearly 300,000 homes annually with zero-fuel-cost solar energy.
Lisa Barton, President and CEO of Alliant Energy, underscores the significance of this achievement, emphasizing the company’s commitment to fostering a cleaner, more reliable, and cost-effective energy future. She highlights the value added for customers and communities through investments in a diverse energy mix.
Spanning more than 1,400 acres, the Grant County Solar Project features over 430,000 solar panels and includes nearly 350 acres of native pollinator habitat. Alliant Energy anticipates the project will generate approximately $30 million in shared revenue for the county and town over its lifespan.
Local business owner and participating landowner, Dave Fritz, attests to the positive impact of the solar project on the community. Solar lease payments provide additional income opportunities for landowners while contributing to the preservation of land value. The project has also delivered on its promise of job creation, benefiting local taxpayers and fostering economic growth.
Alliant Energy collaborated with a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, to realize the Grant County Solar Project. Construction commenced in September 2022, employing over 700 workers and maximizing local economic benefits.
Anthony Pedroni, Vice President of Renewables and Storage Development at NextEra Energy Resources, underscores the shared commitment between the two companies to provide cost-effective clean energy solutions that benefit communities and the environment.
The completion of the Grant County Solar Project underscores Alliant Energy’s leadership in the clean energy transition. The company, Wisconsin’s largest owner and operator of solar energy generation, is set to develop nearly 275 MW of energy storage capacity, including the 100-MW Grant County Battery Project at the solar site.
Through initiatives outlined in its Clean Energy Blueprint, Alliant Energy is diversifying its generation portfolio, enhancing energy security, and working towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from utility operations by 2050.
