The Official State Gazette (BOE) has announced that the Department of Industry and Energy Area of the Government Subdelegation in Teruel has requested prior administrative authorization and construction approval for the PFot-ALM-037 project. This project includes the BESS Hibridaciรณn PV Teruel battery storage facility, which will feature an installed power capacity of 27.64 MW and a storage capacity of 59,904 MWh (2 hours). The facility will be located in the municipality of Azaila, Teruel, and will be hybridized with the existing 42.56 MW FV Teruel photovoltaic solar park.
The total investment required for the project is estimated at 16,971,437 euros, with an additional 107,840 euros allocated for modifications to the electrical substation in Azaila to facilitate the evacuation of the stored electricity.
Iberdrola, a major player in the energy sector, announced in February 2020 the commencement of construction of its first photovoltaic plant in Aragon, with an installed power of 50 MW, also located in Azaila. The plant was originally scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2020 but ultimately began operations in May 2021.
The new battery storage facility represents a significant advancement in renewable energy infrastructure for Teruel, supporting the region’s transition to more sustainable energy sources.
