Infinity Power, Africa’s largest renewable energy developer, Hassan Allam Utilities, a sustainable infrastructure-focused development and investment platform, and Masdar, the UAEโs leading renewable energy company, have signed a Land Access Agreement with the Egyptian Government for their 10GW onshore wind farm. This project, set to be one of the largest in the world, has a project value exceeding US$10 billion.
The agreement grants the consortium access to a 3025 kmยฒ area of land in West Suhag, allowing them to conduct essential development studies. These studies include resource measurement campaigns, geotechnical and topographic surveys, and environmental assessments to ensure minimal impact on the environment.
These studies mark a significant step forward in the projectโs development. The findings will be crucial in advancing towards the construction phase. Once construction begins, the wind farm will offer substantial benefits to local communities, including job creation, community support initiatives, and environmental protection measures.
The landmark wind project is expected to produce 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing Egyptโs carbon emissions by approximately 9 percent by displacing 23.8 million tonnes of CO2 each year. Additionally, the wind farm will support Egyptโs goal of sourcing 42 percent of its energy from renewables by 2030, saving the country an estimated US$5 billion annually in natural gas costs.
The agreement signing was witnessed by the Prime Minister of Egypt, HE Moustafa Madbouly, and HE Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt. Signatories included Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, Karim Hefzy, COO at Hassan Allam Utilities, and Dr. Mohamed Asaad Taher, Senior Manager of Business Development and Investment at Masdar.
Masdarโs CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, stated, โMasdar, its joint venture Infinity Power, and our partner Hassan Allam Utilities, are supporting Egypt to achieve its ambitious renewable energy targets. This milestone project will push the limits of innovation and scale, helping to unlock Africaโs clean energy potential and advance its energy transition.โ
Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, commented, โThe signing of the Land Access Agreement for the 10GW wind farm project is a pivotal moment. This initiative highlights our commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility, and we are proud to be part of this transformative project that will positively impact Egyptโs energy landscape.โ
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, added, โWe are excited to move forward with the development of our 10GW wind farm in Egypt. This project will create jobs, invest in local communities, and provide a significant energy boost, reducing emissions and powering industry across the country.โ
Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, concluded, โThis ambitious project will be one of the largest wind farms in the world. It underscores Infinity Powerโs capability to deliver large-scale renewable projects and demonstrates that bold targets can drive countries to embrace renewable energy and transform their energy mix.โ
