The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has unveiled a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Broaden Energy, a global frontrunner in hydrogen energy solutions. Under this agreement, Broaden Energy will set up the first hydrogen equipment manufacturing complex in Abu Dhabi. This initiative aims to bolster the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS) by advancing sustainability, developing value chains, and solidifying Abu Dhabiโs status as the regionโs premier industrial hub.
With an investment exceeding AED 1 billion, the new manufacturing complex will be pivotal for the regionโs hydrogen economy, creating job opportunities and promoting economic development and innovative industrial solutions.
ADDED and Broaden Energy will collaborate to ensure the project is in line with the UAE National Hydrogen Strategy and the Net Zero 2050 Strategy. TThe UAE National Hydrogen Strategy seeks to place the country among the top 10 producers of green hydrogen by 2031, with a target of producing 1.4 million tonnes annually. Additionally, the UAE plans to develop hydrogen hubs to speed up the industry’s adoption of hydrogen, establish a supply chain, and attract global energy companies.
By producing hydrogen equipment locally, the complex will bolster the country’s energy infrastructure and establish Abu Dhabi as a leader in industrial excellence and technological innovation.
Eng. Arafat Al Yafei, Executive Director of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), ADDEDโs division for industrial sector development and regulation, stated: โWe are honored to support Broaden Energy in leading this initiative, which represents a major milestone in achieving our vision for Abu Dhabiโs industrial future. The hydrogen complex is a key component of ADDEDโs commitment to the UAEโs Net Zero 2050 targets through innovative solutions. Abu Dhabiโs vibrant industrial sector places a high priority on sustainability and continues to attract investments in key industries.โ
Mr. Adnan Sokolija, CEO of Broaden Energy, remarked, โEstablishing the first hydrogen equipment manufacturing complex in Abu Dhabi demonstrates our commitment to advancing renewable energy and supporting the UAE’s strategic vision. We are thrilled to partner with ADDED to bring this innovative project to fruition and help build a sustainable future.”
The MoU between ADDED and Broaden Energy will promote continuous knowledge and research exchange, focusing on renewable energies and green hydrogen technologies. This collaboration, as an integral part of Abu Dhabiโs expanding industrial sector, aims to drive innovation, accelerate clean energy adoption, and bolster efforts to combat climate change.
