UAE Unveils Groundbreaking Energy Management Regulation For Industrial Facilities

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), recently convened a pivotal panel discussion at the Make it in the Emirates (MIITE) Forum. The focus of the discussion centered on the newly introduced Federal Regulation for Energy Management in Industrial Facilities, a pioneering initiative aimed at bolstering energy efficiency and accelerating decarbonization efforts across the industrial sector in the UAE.

The panel discussion, held on the forum’s inaugural day, highlighted the transformative impact of the regulation on industrial operations and outlined a clear roadmap towards sustainable development. Key stakeholders from government bodies, industry leaders, and sustainability experts gathered to explore the incentives and mechanisms designed to optimize energy consumption and drive positive environmental outcomes.

His Excellency Eng Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector at MoEI, underscored the strategic significance of the regulation in aligning with the National Energy and Water Demand Side Management Program’s objectives. He emphasized that the regulation aims to achieve substantial reductions in energy demand, air pollution, and carbon emissions by 2050, contributing significantly to the UAE’s environmental goals.

In his address, His Excellency emphasized the collaborative approach taken in developing the regulation, highlighting the constructive engagement with stakeholders to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. He reaffirmed MoEI’s commitment to advancing sustainability practices and fostering ongoing dialogue to facilitate seamless implementation of the regulation.

Furthermore, His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary of the Industry Accelerators Sector at MoIAT, elaborated on the synergies between the regulation and the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, Operation 300bn. He highlighted that enhancing energy efficiency forms a crucial pillar of the strategy, aimed at achieving substantial decarbonization in the industrial sector by 2050.

The collaboration between MoEI, MoIAT, and other stakeholders underscores a concerted effort to promote innovation and technological adoption in energy management within the industrial sector. This initiative not only aims to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of UAE industries but also positions the country as a global leader in sustainable industrial practices.
