Yemen Inaugurates Al-Hussein Solar Power Plant’s Expansion In Hodeidah

In a significant stride towards enhancing renewable energy infrastructure, Yemen’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti, alongside Hodeidah Governor Muhammad Qahim, officially launched the third and fourth phases of the Al-Hussein Solar Power Plant. Located within the National Renewable Energy Project in Hodeidah, these phases boast a combined capacity of 20 megawatts, funded through the Hodeidah Governorate Support and Development Fund.

During the inauguration event, Minister Al-Bukhaiti and Governor Qahim were briefed by Dr. Riyad Mater, Executive Director of the Hodeidah Governorate Support and Development Fund, on the meticulous implementation efforts culminating in the successful connection of these phases to the national electricity grid.

Dr. Mater highlighted that these new phases complement the existing operational capacity of the project, which has been delivering efficient power since September 2023, thereby elevating the total capacity of the Al-Hussein Solar Power Plant to 40 megawatts.

Minister Al-Bukhaiti commended the swift and efficient execution of the project using national expertise, emphasizing the Al-Hussein station as a pivotal advancement in harnessing solar energy for electricity generation. He underscored the project’s alignment with strategic national objectives set by the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council.

Governor Qahim lauded the inauguration as a significant achievement and a testament to Yemen’s resilience in the face of adversities, acknowledging the collective efforts of various governmental bodies and officials involved in realizing this milestone.

The ceremony was attended by Ali Qashr, Undersecretary of the Hodeidah Governorate for Media and Culture Affairs, Taqi al-Din al-Mut`a, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Financial Affairs, Dr. Mishaal al-Rifi, Director General of the General Electricity Corporation, alongside other officials from the Electricity Corporation and Hodeidah Electricity.

This inauguration marks a crucial step forward in Yemen’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions amidst ongoing challenges, highlighting the country’s commitment to leveraging renewable resources for national development.
