During a recent meeting at the Minister of Mines and Energy’s office on 25th June 2024, Indonesian Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto expressed Indonesia’s commitment to collaborating with Cambodia in identifying and mapping potential mineral reserves within the country.
While coal remains a prominent trade commodity between Indonesia and Cambodia, both the Ambassador and Minister Keo Rattanak highlighted the substantial opportunities for mutual cooperation in new and renewable energy sectors. This partnership aligns closely with their shared goals of combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions.
“Indonesia is eager to support Cambodia’s renewable energy development, particularly in hydro and solar energy,” stated Ambassador Darmosumarto. “We also look forward to learning from Cambodia’s success in transitioning towards greener energy alternatives.”
In pursuit of regional energy security, Minister Keo emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s support for advancing the ASEAN Power Grid initiative. This initiative aims to bolster energy connectivity across Southeast Asia while respecting each nation’s sovereignty.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to enhancing energy and mineral cooperation. This collaborative effort is poised to deliver substantial benefits, promoting sustainable development and fostering economic growth for both nations.
