Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, praised PLN’s rapid efforts in supplying clean energy to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). This appreciation was expressed during his visit to the IKN solar power plant (PLTS) alongside Deputy Minister of BUMN Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Secretary of the Ministry of BUMN Rabin Indrajad Hattari, and PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo.
“Many were skeptical about the IKN’s development, especially its reliance on solar power. However, today we see that the PLTS is complete, producing 10 megawatts, while the current IKN demand is only 1 megawatt,” said Erick Thohir.
Erick thanked PLN for introducing green energy to IKN through the solar power plant and emphasized the future need for greater electricity capacity in the IKN.
“Currently, the PLTS capacity is adequate, but future demands will increase. PLN must harness Kalimantan’s green energy potential, including hydro, solar, and wind. PLN’s role is crucial as it will be the heart of the IKN,” Erick added.
Deputy Minister of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmodjo echoed Erick’s sentiments, commending PLN for establishing a green energy ecosystem in IKN. “We are proud of PLN’s success in building and operating the PLTS in IKN. The capacity will continue to expand to serve the entire IKN ecosystem,” said Kartika.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo affirmed PLN’s commitment to providing reliable and environmentally friendly electricity in IKN, incorporating state-of-the-art technology with green, smart, and beautiful concepts.
“Thanks to Minister Erick Thohir for his guidance. We are ready to ensure IKN becomes a green and futuristic city,” Darmawan stated.
To support IKN, PLN will develop green and smart electricity solutions, with all power plants using environmentally friendly energy and sophisticated digital processes. Currently, PLN Nusantara Power, in collaboration with Singapore’s Sembcorp, has built a PLTS in IKN. Of the planned 50 megawatts by the end of 2024, 10 megawatts are already operational.
Darmawan also highlighted that the entire IKN electricity network would be underground, enhancing reliability and aesthetics. PLN plans to build smart transmission, distribution, and meters, all operating in a smart grid with 100% renewable energy.
