Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has announced plans to initiate the selection process for Green Hydrogen Producers under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme. The scheme, outlined by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), aims to establish production facilities in India for generating Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, targeting an annual production capacity of 4,50,000 metric tonnes.

According to SECI’s notification, the tender documents will align closely with the Scheme Guidelines recently issued by MNRE on July 3, 2024. These guidelines fall under the broader framework of the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s Component II, specifically focusing on incentivizing Green Hydrogen production through Mode 1, Tranche-II.

The initiative seeks to bolster India’s capacity for sustainable energy production by facilitating the setup of facilities dedicated to Green Hydrogen. This move is part of the government’s strategic efforts to promote cleaner energy alternatives and reduce carbon emissions in the country.

SECI anticipates that the tender documents, which are slated for imminent release, will provide comprehensive details on the eligibility criteria, application procedures, and project requirements for interested producers. The selection process will play a crucial role in identifying entities committed to advancing India’s capabilities in green energy technology and fostering a robust ecosystem for Green Hydrogen production.

This development underscores India’s commitment to accelerating its transition towards renewable energy sources and achieving its climate goals under the Paris Agreement. It also reflects the growing global emphasis on harnessing hydrogen as a clean and versatile energy carrier to drive sustainable development across various industrial sectors.
