The SoutH2 Corridor Project took center stage during a high-profile meeting at SONATRACH Headquarters, attended by leading representatives from major energy companies including VNG (Germany), SNAM (Italy), SEA CORRIDOR (Italy), and VERBUND (Austria).
The meeting was chaired by Mr Rachid Hachichi, President & CEO of SONATRACH, and included prominent figures such as Mr Hans-Joachim Polk, Board Member at VNG; Mr Francesco Caria, President & CEO of SEA CORRIDOR; Mr Piero Ercoli, Executive Officer at SNAM; and Mrs Susanna Zapreva, Director of Renewable Energies at VERBUND, along with other senior managers and experts.
The discussions focused on advancing the SoutH2 Corridor, a pioneering initiative aimed at transporting green hydrogen from Algeria to Germany via Italy and Austria. The project is expected to deliver nearly 4 million tons of green hydrogen annually to the European Union.
Attendees reviewed various aspects of the ambitious project and agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding in September 2024. This agreement will facilitate joint studies necessary for implementing the integrated hydrogen value chain, which may involve utilizing existing infrastructure and constructing new facilities for hydrogen transport.
The SoutH2 Corridor represents a significant step in advancing green hydrogen technology and underscores the collaborative effort of leading energy companies to support sustainable energy solutions across Europe.
