Trinasolar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, is set to expand its hybrid solar projects across Southeast Asia. This move follows the successful launch of Malaysiaโ€™s largest hybrid solar project, a 100MWac plant located in Merchang, Terengganu.

The project, executed by Cypark Resources Berhad, features a combination of 35MW floating solar panels and 65MW ground-mounted solar panels. It is anticipated to offset 202,024 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The floating solar segment, positioned on a lake near the sea, benefits from the cooling effect of water and reduced water evaporation, while the ground-mounted system takes advantage of the reflective properties of the white sandy soil.

Elva Wang, Head of Southeast Asia at Trinasolar, praised the project’s success, highlighting the significant opportunities for similar large-scale hybrid solar projects in the region. โ€œThis complex projectโ€™s successful operation is a testament to its design and implementation. We foresee substantial potential in Southeast Asia for integrating both floating and ground-mounted solar installations,โ€ Wang stated.

The plant utilizes Trinasolarโ€™s Vertex 590-595W bifacial modules, known for their durability in high humidity and salt-laden coastal environments. These modules have been recognized by TรœV Rheinland for their performance under challenging conditions. Their bifacial design enhances energy generation by capturing sunlight from both sides, while the high efficiency of up to 21.4% contributes to reduced energy costs.

Datoโ€™ Ami Moris, Executive Chairperson of Cypark Resources, emphasized the project’s significance. โ€œThis is Malaysiaโ€™s largest hybrid solar power plant, showcasing our ability to integrate solar power with the natural environment of Terengganu,โ€ Moris said.

Trinasolar is committed to advancing hybrid solar technology and supporting Southeast Asiaโ€™s renewable energy goals, aligning with Malaysiaโ€™s target of a 70% renewable energy mix by 2050. Wang concluded, โ€œWe look forward to driving more such initiatives and contributing to the regionโ€™s renewable energy ambitions.โ€
