The Electricity Commission Of Sabah To Enforce New Certification Standards: Only ECoS And Solar PV Certificates Valid From January 2025

In a significant update to the certification process, the Electricity Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has announced that from January 2025, only ECoS Electricity or Solar PV Competency Certificates will be accepted for registration matters under its administration. This change comes in accordance with Regulation 60 under the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024.

To facilitate a smooth transition, ECoS is introducing the 2024 Electricity Supply Enactment (EBE) Module Course and the 2024 Electricity Supply Regulations (PPBE). These new courses will allow holders of ST Electricity Competency Certificates or SEDA Malaysia Solar PV Competency Certificates to qualify for the ECoS Certificate Equivalent Electric or Solar PV Competence.

Certificate holders currently registered with employers listed under ECoS, such as Electrical Service Contractors, Electrical Contractors, Private Wiring Units, Electric Signage Contractors, Switchboard Manufacturers, Utility Companies, and owners of both public and private electrical installations, will need to align with the new certification requirements. Additionally, certificate holders who are not currently registered with any ECoS-affiliated employer but intend to work in Sabah will also need to comply.

To ensure a uniform implementation of these new requirements, ECoS has accredited a total of 16 training institutions throughout Sabah to offer the 2024 EBE and PPBE Module Courses, including examinations. These accredited centers will provide the necessary training and certification to ensure that all relevant personnel are qualified under the new regulations.
