PT PLN (Persero) has announced a significant step in its commitment to sustainable energy through the sale of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to PT Agincourt Resources. The gold mining company has purchased 275,000 REC units, equivalent to 275 Megawatt hours of renewable energy, from PLN’s North Sumatra Main Distribution Unit (UID).
The sale and purchase agreement, signed in Medan, marks a milestone in PLNโs efforts to promote environmentally friendly energy solutions. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo highlighted that this collaboration exemplifies PLN’s role in facilitating the clean energy transition in Indonesia.
โThis partnership underscores PLN’s commitment to supporting green energy and enhances our position as a key player in advancing an environmentally friendly industry in Indonesia,โ Prasodjo stated. He emphasized that the REC service offers customers a way to receive recognition for their use of transparent and internationally recognized renewable energy sources.
The REC certificates provide proof that the electricity used comes from renewable sources, aligning with PLNโs mission to support a green industry. Darmawan Prasodjo expressed appreciation for companies like PT Agincourt Resources, which are taking proactive steps towards energy transition.
Saleh Siswanto, General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra, praised PT Agincourt Resources for embracing PLNโs REC service, noting that this is the largest REC purchase outside Java. โWe are grateful for PT Agincourt Resourcesโ trust and are committed to meeting their clean electricity needs,โ Siswanto said.
Jingga Ajani, Senior Commercial Manager at PT Agincourt Resources, affirmed that the REC purchase aligns with Astra Group’s targets for achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and decarbonization by 2030. โWe are dedicated to using clean energy and working with PLN to better protect the environment,โ Ajani added.
This REC transaction not only demonstrates PLNโs dedication to reducing carbon emissions but also reinforces its role in supporting the development of a green industry in North Sumatra.
