SCG Chemicals (SCGC), a leader in sustainable polymer innovation, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Industrial Development Foundation and the Automotive Institute to advance Thailandโs automotive industry toward a low-carbon future. The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities and global competitiveness of industrial operators and plastic parts manufacturers in the Thai automotive sector.
Under the agreement, SCGC will continue to develop eco-friendly polymer innovations and introduce comprehensive digital solutions to the automotive industry. The focus will be on maximizing energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions, aligning with the government’s policy to promote locally produced materials and parts for the creation of “clean, economical, and safe” vehicles. This collaboration marks a significant step toward achieving economic sustainability alongside environmental stewardship, as Thailand moves toward a low-carbon society.
The partnership includes the development of environmentally friendly polymer innovations for automotive parts, and the creation of materials for electric vehicle batteries, supporting the rising demand for electric vehicles. SCGC will also apply its expertise in industrial and digital solutions to enhance the entire production process, contributing to the evolution of sustainable vehicle manufacturing.
Dr. Suracha Udomsak, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Innovation Officer of SCGC, emphasized Thailandโs pivotal role as the leading automotive production base in ASEAN. “Developing a low-carbon automotive industry will boost our global competitiveness and significantly contribute to Thailand’s sustainable economic growth. SCGCโs commitment to green polymers, which align with the Low Waste, Low Carbon approach, is central to this effort. Our collaboration with the Automotive Institute will focus on innovation in automotive parts, electric vehicle battery materials, and the application of digital solutions to improve production efficiency and reduce emissions,” he said.
Dr. Kriangsak Wongpromrat, Director of the Automotive Institute, highlighted the importance of transitioning the Thai automotive industry toward Future Mobility. “The shift from traditional to new production methods that prioritize energy efficiency and reduced emissions is essential. This collaboration with SCGC is a crucial step in leveraging polymer innovation and digital solutions to enhance the capabilities of Thailandโs automotive parts manufacturers, driving the industry towards sustainability and better quality of life,” he added.
The collaboration is a significant milestone in Thailand’s journey toward a low-carbon automotive industry, with a focus on tangible outcomes in environmental and economic sustainability.
