OptiPower, a trading division of Murray & Roberts Limited, in a joint venture with Spanish energy infrastructure developer Coxabengoa, has been awarded a significant contract to construct a 100 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) renewable energy facility in South Africa’s Northwest Province. The project, valued at approximately R1.2 billion, is set to provide renewable energy for a South African mining company.
The joint venture’s contract includes the construction and installation of PV modules, trackers, and inverters, as well as the procurement, construction, and installation of main transformers and associated infrastructure for substations and overhead power lines. OptiPower will hold a 50% share in the joint venture.
OptiPower specializes in providing engineering, procurement, and construction solutions for high and medium voltage power lines, substations, and the electrical balance of plant for renewable energy projects. Meanwhile, Coxabengoa, with a presence in 30 countries, brings extensive experience in energy infrastructure development to the partnership.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards expanding renewable energy capacity in South Africa, supporting both the mining industry and the country’s broader energy transition goals. The project is expected to enhance the renewable energy mix in the region and contribute to sustainable energy development.
