Tarlac City Shopping Mall Solar Project by PROINSO Wins Best Solar Project of the Year – Rooftop Distributed

The 402 kWp rooftop expansion received the Project Excellence honour for overcoming space constraints and maximising the commercial value of distributed solar.

The Tarlac City Shopping Mall rooftop solar project by PROINSO has been named Best Solar Project of the Year – Rooftop Distributed at the Philippines Sustainability Leadership Awards 2026, presented during Philippines Clean Energy Week 2026.

Recognised under the Project Excellence category, the award celebrates an innovative 402 kWp rooftop solar expansion that successfully addressed limited installation space through the use of additional supporting structures.

Rather than allowing conventional rooftop constraints to limit the project’s potential, PROINSO developed an approach that increased the usable installation area and enabled the retail facility to accommodate additional solar capacity.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and site optimisation can unlock greater renewable-energy value from existing commercial properties. This is particularly relevant for shopping malls and other retail facilities, where available rooftop space must often compete with existing equipment, access requirements and operational considerations.

By creating additional installation structures, the project maximised the available area while demonstrating a practical pathway for expanding distributed solar within space-constrained environments.

The recognition also highlights the commercial potential of rooftop solar for the retail sector. Shopping malls typically have significant daytime electricity requirements, making on-site solar generation a valuable opportunity to support cleaner energy consumption and reduce the carbon footprint of commercial infrastructure.

The Tarlac City Shopping Mall project shows that physical constraints do not necessarily have to prevent facilities from increasing their renewable-energy capacity. With the right design strategy, engineering expertise and project planning, challenging sites can be transformed into scalable clean-energy opportunities.

Its 402 kWp expansion provides a strong example of how distributed solar projects can move beyond standard rooftop configurations. The project combines practical space optimisation with commercial applicability, offering lessons that can be considered by other retail and commercial facilities pursuing on-site renewable energy.

The Philippines Sustainability Leadership Awards 2026 formed part of the recognition programme at Philippines Clean Energy Week 2026, held on 09 October 2026 at Sheraton Manila Bay.

The event brought together policymakers, renewable-energy developers, investors, financiers, EPC companies, technology providers, corporate energy users and sustainability leaders. Its programme featured keynote addresses, three strategic panel discussions, two exclusive leadership roundtables, an industry exhibition, networking sessions and multiple awards platforms celebrating clean-energy and sustainability excellence.

Receiving the Best Solar Project of the Year – Rooftop Distributed award recognises the Tarlac City Shopping Mall project as an important example of innovative rooftop solar engineering and reinforces the potential of distributed renewable energy across the Philippines’ commercial sector.
