Sterlite Power, a prominent power transmission developer and global provider of products and services, has been awarded the Khavda Phase-IV (7GW): Part C project. This significant contract involves developing the transmission infrastructure necessary to evacuate power from the Khavda regionโs renewable energy zone. The project marks Sterlite Powerโs second green energy venture in Gujarat and its fifth overall in the green energy sector.
The 30 GW hybrid renewable energy park at Khavda, which combines solar and wind power, was inaugurated by the Honโble Prime Minister of India in December 2020. The new Phase-IV transmission scheme will facilitate the evacuation of an additional 7 GW of renewable energy from this park, with a commercial operation date scheduled 24 months from the acquisition of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
Sterlite Power has acquired Khavda IV C Power Transmission Limited from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a subsidiary of REC Limited. This acquisition represents a key step in advancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure, aligning with the governmentโs target of installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The Phase IV, Part C project includes several major components:
- A 258 km, 765 kV transmission corridor linking South Olpad (GIS) substation to Boisar-II (GIS) substation.
- A 6000 MVA, 765/400/220 kV GIS substation at Boisar-II.
- Two LILO lines, totaling approximately 162 km, extending to Boisar-II.
- A 21 km, 400 kV transmission corridor from Boisar-II (GIS) substation to Velgaon (GIS) substation.
- The implementation of STATCOM systems at Boisar-II and Navsari substations.
Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director of Sterlite Power, commented, โThis project is crucial to our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing Indiaโs green energy transmission infrastructure. We are dedicated to consistently innovating and developing solutions that support the countryโs green energy goals.โ
The new infrastructure will enable the efficient transfer of green power from Gujarat, establishing a vital link for energy distribution from Khavda to South Olpad, Boisar, and eventually to Pune. This development will bolster the energy infrastructure in Maharashtra, particularly benefiting the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune with enhanced power supply.
The bid process for this project was coordinated by REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd., with notable participants including Sterlite Power, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), and Adani Transmission.
