Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and Minister of State for Communications and Government Spokesperson, Dr. Muhannad Al-Mubaideen, held a press conference today to unveil new regulations aimed at enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources into the national electrical grid and promoting energy efficiency.

The newly approved system, effective in 2024, focuses on streamlining the connection of renewable energy facilities to the electrical network and includes measures for exempting renewable systems from certain regulations while encouraging energy conservation. Dr Al-Kharabsheh highlighted that renewable energy now accounts for 27% of the kingdomโ€™s electricity consumption, and the new regulations address previous gaps in the system, fostering fair competition between local and imported products.

The new framework also includes initiatives to support low-income individuals and military casualties in accessing renewable energy benefits. Additionally, there are ongoing technical studies to update the electrical grid and transition it to a smart system. With Jordanโ€™s energy intensity index 25% higher than the global average, the new regulations aim to significantly enhance energy efficiency. The Energy Fund has also supported 100 factories in conducting comprehensive energy audits, fully funded by the Ministry.
