Enfinity Global, a leader in renewable energy, and Feralpi Group, a major European steel producer, have entered into a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply 23 GWh of solar energy annually in Italy. Under the decade-long PPA, Feralpi will receive clean energy from a 15.5 MW solar plant owned by Enfinity, located in Ferrara, Emilia Romagna. The solar facility is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
This agreement will provide clean energy to Feralpi’s industrial sites in Northern Italy, helping the company eliminate 8,625 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. This reduction is equivalent to the emissions of 6,750 cars per year in Italy. The green energy supplied by Enfinity will support Feralpiโs transition to more sustainable energy practices.
As part of its ESG strategy, Feralpi Group has outlined several measures to advance its energy and ecological transition towards low-emission steel production. Specifically, the company aims to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and to cut remaining Scope 3 emissions by 25% within the same timeframe. The use of renewable energy sources is a key component of this strategy.
For Enfinity, this agreement marks a strategic milestone as it is the companyโs first industrial PPA signed in Italy. This deal allows Enfinity to directly provide clean energy to end-users and strengthens its market position as a leading provider of solar PPA in the country. Enfinity currently has 388 MW of contracted and under-construction projects, 2 GW of solar plants in final authorization stages, and 2.8 GW of storage projects in Italy.
Alice Cajani, Enfinity Globalโs Director of Energy Commercialization, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, โWe are proud to support Feralpi in its sustainability efforts by providing reliable and clean energy. We hope to expand our partnership with additional agreements in the future.โ Cajani added, โThis agreement is a strategic milestone for Enfinity Global, representing our first industrial PPA in Italy and enabling us to deliver clean energy directly to end-users.โ
Giovanni Pasini, CEO of Feralpi Group, commented on the importance of the agreement, โThe steel industry is highly energy-intensive, making energy a crucial lever in accelerating our decarbonization efforts. We are electrifying our industrial processes where possible to eliminate fossil fuels, and the use of renewable energy is a fundamental driver of our transition. The PPA with Enfinity represents a significant step forward in achieving lower-emission steel within our energy strategy.
