A petition was filed by Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JdVVNL), seeking approval for the tariff discovered through a competitive bidding process for solar power projects in Rajasthan. These projects are part of a larger effort to solarize agricultural pumps and feeder systems, aimed at increasing renewable energy use in the state. The projects fall under a scheme that focuses on decentralizing power generation, allowing for local, ground-mounted solar plants to supply energy directly to agricultural consumers.
During the hearing, it was noted that the bidding process had been delayed due to certain external factors, including elections and changes in the regulatory environment. The petition highlighted the importance of moving forward with these solar projects, particularly as they would help address energy needs for agricultural consumers in the region. The petition involved six specific solar plants, for which tariff rates had been negotiated and reduced to align with market expectations.
These solar plants will contribute a total capacity of 13.12 MW, with individual plants ranging in size. The bidding process involved multiple stages, including negotiations with bidders to ensure the tariffs were competitive. The process followed established guidelines to ensure transparency, and the final tariff rates were approved after considering market conditions, land lease agreements, and financial assistance provisions.
One of the key points raised in the petition was the challenge of identifying and procuring suitable land for these solar projects. To address this issue, the Rajasthan government launched a platform that allows landowners and solar developers to collaborate, making it easier to secure land for solar projects. This platform aims to streamline the land acquisition process and reduce associated costs.
Additionally, the petition emphasized the importance of adhering to domestic manufacturing requirements, particularly for solar panels and modules. This ensures that the projects support local industry while also complying with government regulations.
The solar projects will provide long-term benefits, with a projected operation period of 25 years. During this time, the projects are expected to contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals while reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. The projects will be monitored and maintained to ensure they integrate smoothly into the existing power grid.
The petition was approved, allowing the six solar power plants to proceed with the agreed tariffs. This approval marks a significant step forward in Rajasthan’s efforts to expand its solar energy capacity, supporting both local agriculture and the broader renewable energy agenda.
