Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Bahrain’s Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah), have signed a framework agreement focusing on renewable energy as well as energy efficiency.
The agreement entails the Ministry offering technical support and guidance to Edamah in integrating renewable energy and energy efficiency measures into its facilities and buildings.
Humaidan noted that this framework is a key component of the Ministry’s efforts to implement Bahrain’s National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP). It also demonstrates Edamah’s dedication to adopting renewable energy and enhancing energy efficiency, aligning with the nation’s broader sustainability objectives.
He emphasized that Edamah’s commitment to renewable energy aligns with the national strategy to optimize and sustain energy resources.
The minister thanked Edamah for its proactive stance on renewable energy and its involvement with NREAP, especially for embracing advanced solar panel technologies.
Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Edamah, expressed his appreciation to the minister and the Ministry’s team for their support in reaching the objectives of Bahrain’s NREAP.
He reiterated Edamah’s commitment to utilizing renewable energy to ensure resource sustainability, optimize energy use, and advance the green economy, in support of Bahrain’s goal to cut emissions by 30% by 2035 as well as achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
Bahrain’s NREAP aims to achieve 5% renewable energy in the total energy mix by 2025, with a target of 20% by 2035. The plan also includes a 6% improvement in energy efficiency by 2025.
