- Carbon emissions at H2 MEET 2024 will be measured for future carbon neutrality strategies
- Visitor surveys on carbon neutrality will promote awareness and participation
- The event aims to lead in sustainability beyond being a traditional exhibition
The H2 MEET Organizing Committee, chaired by Nam-hoon Kang, has announced new programs ahead of the world hydrogen expo, ‘H2 MEET 2024,’ which is set to open on September 25. These initiatives aim to address environmental and sustainability challenges, going beyond the traditional showcasing of hydrogen industry technologies and products.
As part of these efforts, the committee will measure the total carbon emissions generated at the venue throughout the event. This data will be used to develop strategies aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral exhibition in the future, positioning H2 MEET as a platform focused on driving sustainability in the hydrogen sector.
In addition to the emissions measurement, a survey on carbon neutrality awareness will be conducted at the exhibition entrance. This survey will serve as preliminary data for setting carbon reduction goals for future exhibitions, starting post-2025. The Organizing Committee aims to enhance visitors’ understanding of carbon neutrality and encourage the adoption of sustainable lifestyles through active participation.
The H2 MEET Organizing Committee includes the Korea Automobile & Mobility Industry Association, H2KOREA, Hydrogen Energy Network (HyNet), Korea Energy Agency, and the Korea Industry Alliance Forum (KIAF).
Transitioning to a carbon-neutral exhibition is a global trend, not unique to H2 MEET 2024. Similar initiatives are already underway at international events, particularly in Europe and North America. For example, Germany’s Hannover Messe has been implementing various efforts to reduce carbon emissions, utilizing renewable energy sources and eco-friendly transportation to lower its carbon footprint. Similarly, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has introduced programs focused on carbon neutrality, supporting companies showcasing technologies that reduce emissions and implementing methods to minimize the eventโs environmental impact.
These global efforts have not only enhanced the success of exhibitions but have also fostered sustainable industrial innovation. H2 MEET 2024 aligns with these global trends, aiming to significantly promote sustainable growth in Korea’s hydrogen industry while aspiring to become a leading carbon-neutral exhibition in Asia.
Commenting on the initiatives, Chairman Nam-hoon Kang said, “This program will allow us to more accurately assess the exhibition’s environmental impact and lay the groundwork for substantive reduction activities. H2 MEET aims to evolve beyond a traditional industry exhibition into a leading platform that fulfills its environmental responsibilities.”
‘H2 MEET 2024,’ hosted by the H2 MEET Organizing Committee, will be held from September 25 (Wednesday) to September 27 (Friday) at Hall 1 of KINTEX in Goyang City. For the first time, it will be held jointly with H2WORLD, Koreaโs premier hydrogen-specific exhibition, with the aim of becoming the leading global hydrogen industry event and showcasing South Korea’s hydrogen economy ecosystem.
In addition to H2 MEET and H2WORLD, the K-BATTERY SHOW 2024, focusing on secondary battery materials, parts, and equipment, and HARFKO 2024, covering heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and fluid systems, will also be held at the same venue.
