The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has officially announced the release of a request for qualification (RFQ) for the sixth round of solar and wind energy projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). This initiative, which is overseen by the Ministry of Energy, aims to bolster the Kingdomโs renewable energy capacity significantly.
The total capacity for the Round 6 projects is set at an impressive 4,500 megawatts (MW). The proposed projects include:
- 1,500 MWac Dawadmi Wind Independent Power Producer (IPP) located in Riyadh Province.
- 1,400 MWac Najran Solar Photovoltaic (PV) IPP situated in Najran Province.
- 600 MWac Samtah Solar PV IPP in Jizan Province.
- 600 MW Ad Darb Solar PV IPP is also located in Jizan Province.
- 400 MW As Sufun Solar PV IPP in Hail Province.
These projects are part of the broader goals of the NREP, which aims to achieve a balanced energy mix, targeting 50% of the Kingdomโs electricity supply to come from renewable sources by 2030. The SPPC plays a crucial role in the predevelopment, tendering, and offtake processes for these energy projects.
To date, SPPC has successfully awarded over 19 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity through the NREP, marking a significant step towards a sustainable energy future for Saudi Arabia. The launch of this RFQ represents another critical milestone in the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing its renewable energy landscape and fulfilling its environmental goals.
