The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the development of solar parks in the state under the new energy policy. Two significant solar projects in Bundelkhand are expected to cover over 1,500 hectares of land. These solar parks will contribute to the state’s renewable energy production by generating substantial electricity. The decision aligns with the state’s goal to reach 22,000 MW of solar energy production by 2026-2027, benefiting the local economy and providing clean energy to the people.
The Bundelkhand region, with vast unused land, is suitable for solar projects, making it an ideal location for large-scale solar energy development. The approved solar parks will create jobs and contribute to the state’s clean energy goals. The project will involve leasing land to private developers for 25 years, with a nominal rent to promote sustainable energy investments.
Manish Agarwal, Vice President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), expressed his appreciation for the state government’s renewable energy policies, stating, “We commend the state’s proactive approach in the renewable energy sector, which positions Uttar Pradesh to make a significant contribution towards achieving our Prime Minister’s vision of transforming India into a renewable energy hub.”
With an expected capacity of 450 MW, the Bundelkhand solar parks will be among the largest in the country. The state government’s decision to encourage solar energy development through policies such as land leasing and financial incentives aims to boost the energy sector and attract further investments. This initiative is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader strategy to address energy challenges and reduce its carbon footprint through renewable energy sources.
The solar projects also align with India’s national goals for renewable energy expansion. With these solar parks, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a leader in solar energy, contributing significantly to the country’s clean energy targets and fostering sustainable development in the region. As of August 2024, Uttar Pradesh has installed a total solar PV capacity of 3,280.15 MW. This includes approximately 2,965.12 MW from utility-scale projects, over 260 MW from solar rooftop installations, and around 315 MW from off-grid solar and KUSUM projects, according to MNRE data.
