Transition VC, India’s first venture capital fund dedicated to energy transition, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based T-Hub and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to launch the country’s first energy transition-focused Startup Accelerator. This initiative will provide comprehensive support to deep-tech startups working in critical energy sectors.
The first cohort of the accelerator will support 4-5 startups, with plans to expand to 7-8 startups in future cohorts. The application process for the program will be announced soon.
T-Hub will serve as the Innovation Execution Partner, responsible for structuring and executing the program while assisting startups with research, development, and product prototyping. Transition VC will act as the Funding and Market Access Partner, ensuring startups have access to financial resources, market support, and mentorship. IEEE will take on the role of Knowledge Partner, offering academic support, access to technical experts, skill development, and a global university network.
The program will focus on solutions in areas such as decarbonisation, electrification of transportation, long-duration energy storage, power electronics, Net Zero, and new energy sources.
Leadership Perspectives
Mohammed Shoeb Ali, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Transition VC, highlighted the shortage of energy transition and deep-tech hardware startups in India. “Energy transition is not just a climate imperative but also crucial for India’s energy security. This partnership with IEEE and T-Hub will create a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs, providing them with essential infrastructure for success,” Ali said.
T-Hub CEO Mahankali Srinivas Rao (MSR) emphasized the importance of innovation in the energy transition sector. “This Accelerator is a call to action for innovators. Our combined expertise will empower changemakers to bring about meaningful change in energy innovation,” MSR stated.
Srikanth Chandrasekaran, Senior Director at IEEE, reaffirmed IEEE’s commitment to fostering sustainable solutions. “Our collaboration with Transition VC and T-Hub reaffirms our dedication to driving global efforts toward a low-carbon future,” Chandrasekaran said.
Net Zero Warriors Initiative
The Accelerator Program is part of the broader “Net Zero Warriors” initiative by Transition VC and IEEE, aimed at addressing climate change through advanced engineering solutions. As part of this initiative, two Centres of Excellence (COEs) will be established in India, including one at T-Hub in Hyderabad, to facilitate collaboration, innovation, and technology scaling for startups and entrepreneurs focused on energy transition.
