The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has proposed amendments to its business transaction regulations under the Electricity Act, 2003. This initiative, established under Section 177, aims to enhance the procedural framework for the CEA’s operations.
Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft regulations. Comments can be submitted by post or email to the Chief Engineer (Legal) at the Sewa Bhawan, located in New Delhi. The deadline for submitting feedback is October 30, 2024. The office is open for inspection of the draft regulations on working days between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
The proposed amendments include significant changes to the quorum required for meetings. Specifically, the new regulations state that a quorum will consist of half of the appointed members, including the Chairperson, with a minimum of three members present. If there is a fraction, the upper number will be considered. In cases where the Chairperson is unavailable, the present members will select a full-time member to preside over the meeting.
These changes are aimed at improving the efficiency of the CEAโs operations and ensuring effective governance within the organization. The amendments will come into effect upon their publication in the Official Gazette, marking a step forward in the regulatory landscape of the electricity sector in India.
